About BFAC

Black Flag Arts Coalition was founded by Alexander Craddock, CEO and Owner of Team Dynamite Productions and METROCON and a long-time member of the martial arts and performance communities in Florida. The goal of the coalition is to bring together instructors and practitioners of a variety of movement arts like fencing, fire spinning/flow, acting, dance, and more, and provide a community-driven space to practice these arts.

It can be challenging to find spaces to engage in these arts that aren't prohibitively expensive or involve a rigorous audition process. We were left with the quandary of "How do you get good if you have to already be good (or rich) to even participate?" This led us to want to create a welcoming and open space, independent from any audition, performance, or tournament, for practitioners of all walks to gather, improve, practice, and play.

  â€‹

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying, sexism, racism, and excessive force. There is no reason to gatekeep this art and hobby, nor is there ever a reason to endanger the mental or physical well-being of a clubmate. Resident or visiting fencers will be asked to leave if they cannot adhere to these standards, or if they exhibit behavior that signals they are a danger to themself or others.

BFAC shares space with Team Dynamite Productions and their other projects, including METROCON rehearsals - this can affect scheduling at certain parts of the year - always check the schedule page to verify any changes!

With the rich Tampa Bay tradition of swashbuckling pirates and unique artistic opportunities, Black Flag Arts Coalition was founded by Tampa native Alexander Craddock to create an inclusive, practical, and exciting environment to practice stage combat, martial arts, fire performance, physical acting, and more in the North Tampa area.

Alexander began as a theater artist in his teens, which eventually led to learning swordwork and martial arts as a stage combatant in 2006 and a fencer the same year. His martial arts disciplines would eventually include Joachim Meyer, Northern Shaolin, Italian Rapier, and classical fencing, among others. Alex has both trained and fenced in tournaments on three continents and holds medals in both longsword and rapier competitions.

Along with teaching at BFAC, Alex also directs, choreographs, and trains the stage combat performers, actors, and fire dancers for METROCON in Tampa.
